Dear Friends in Christ,
Greetings in the peace of Jesus Christ. We are looking forward to our upcoming retreat and the opportunity to share in fellowship, worship, learning, and conversation. Our theme for the retreat, Living Into God’s Unseen Future, will explore the following scripture passages below:
Doctrine and Covenants 161:1a - Lift up your eyes and fix them on the place beyond the horizon to which you are sent. Journey in trust, assured that the great and marvelous work is for this time and for all time.
Hebrews 11:8-10 - By an act of faith, Abraham said yes to God’s call to travel to an unknown place that would become his home. When he left he had no idea where he was going. By an act of faith he lived in the country promised him, lived as a stranger camping in tents. Isaac and Jacob did the same, living under the same promise. Abraham did it by keeping his eye on an unseen city with real, eternal foundations—the City designed and built by God.
I invite you to spend some time reflecting on these passages and the following questions:
How do these passages connect with your personal and congregational journey?
What unknown place is the Spirit prompting you to explore?
We will also explore our primary essential question - How do we discern, embrace, and risk living fully into our identity and calling as Community of Christ in a changing world? This question from Doctrine and Covenants 163:1 calls us into an unseen but hopeful future as we explore how to become invitational Christ-centered communities that share all the dimensions of Christ's peace.
